Hitchcock on Hitchcock is a compendium of 46 essays and interviews of the famed director Alfred Hitchcock. Edited by Sidney Gottlieb, the book is divided into five chapter (much of it new to readers): 1) Hitchcock's career, 2) actors, 3) audience awareness, 4) film production, 5) style/ technique. With a chronological breakdown in each category, Gottlieb invites readers to do exciting homework tracing parallel arcs of Hitchcock's development, which developed in England and matured in the United States.
Gottlieb ably defends the credibility of Hitchcock, who was no exception to the adage, "Trust the tale, not the artist!" His 53 films and seven years in television amply suggest his serio-comic nature. His caricatured profile and cameos lived up to the selfstyled sobriquet, "Hitch."
