Volunteering to help others is an important concept for many people who choose our discipline. I always envisioned joining the Peace Corps after retiring. Shortly before that time, however, a group was forming an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity in our town. The Habitat principles are consistent with my ideas of making a difference in people's lives, providing assistance, and teaching independence. Habitat addresses all the fundamental needs of people and the essence of Family and Consumer Sciences.
