The Etz Chaim Center for Jewish Studies this week finally began to rebuild two years after an arson fire destroyed its Upper Park Heights headquarters.
The Feb. 2, 2002 fire caused $300,000 in damage and rendered the center's Ford's Lane building uninhabitable, according to director Rabbi Shlomo Porter.
But last Tuesday, March 2, wrecking crews began demolishing the fire-ravaged building. Construction on a new, $1.5 million structure will begin as soon as the demolition is completed in a week or so, said Rabbi Porter.
