Iran was accused last night of firing Scud missiles into Iraq during the day, targeting a camp housing Iranian opposition fighters and their families, a spokesman for the rebel group said.
There was no immediate comment from the Tehran authorities about this second consecutive day of tension between the two countries - each of which affords refuge to groups opposing the other's government.
The attack was on the Ashraf camp, 70 miles (110kms) northeast of Baghdad, said Shahin Gobadi of the Mojahedin Khalq. Massoud Rajavi, the leader of the group - itself deemed a terrorist organisation by Washington - condemned the attacks and urged the United Nations to act against Iran.
It was unclear how many missiles were launched.
