Another opening, another show.
I wormed my car through the immense parking lot of the Largo Mall, finally found a slot - a 10-minute walk from the largest supermarket south of the planet Jupiter.
It was last Thursday, first day of business for Jewel Osco, the superstore that sells everything from kippers to condoms to Cutty Sark.
The noon sun beat down on hundreds of souls waiting to be allowed through the Golden Gates. Inside, more hundreds trod the hallowed aisles.
``Why are you here, what do you want?`` I kept asking people waiting in line. They smiled happily; their eyes glittered with excitement.
``I planned my day about this opening,`` said Donna Fannin. ``I wanted to know what all the excitement was about.``
Linda Miechle remembered the store from Chicago, and so did her mother, Joan Ruesch.
``I've been waiting eight years to be able to buy real meat, a real loaf of bread,`` said Miechle.
