Abstract (summary)

Analysis of noise and non-linearities in the magnetic recording processes in thin metallic films is presented. Models for transition jitter are given which include the magnetic interaction of neighboring recorded transitions. A general formalism for the power spectral density due to this noise source is derived. The effects of amplitude and position jitter are calculated and compared. A self-consistent model is developed to analyze non-linearities in the recording process. This model is utilized to calculate in detail the effect of a previously written transition on the next written transition.
