GIVATAYIM-- This is a pleasant residential city, just outside of Tel Aviv, and alongside Ramat Gan. It is not the sort of place where exciting things happen, but its inhabitants are still talking about one of their neighbors, a man who, as it turned out, nobody really knew.
He was closely identified with one of the city's synagogues, and served as its Gabbai -- an honorary official who handles some of the financial affairs of the institution, including collection of membership dues, pledges, etc. He kept careful records, and his accounts were always in good order. He never failed to give a receipt for monies delivered to him. All this was to be expected of a religious man, about 60, who faithfully attended services daily.
He was known as a good husband and father of his three children.
His health gave some concern...
