Iranians will choose a new Parliament today in an election that is largely restricted to supporters of Islamic rule but still an important signpost of the country's attitude toward reform.
The election will indicate whether voters still support President Hashemi Rafsanjani and his efforts to gradually open up the economy. It also will set the tone for next year's presidential election, when Rafsanjani is required to step down after his second four-year term.
