THE base for Britain's aerial fightback against German Zeppelin raids during the First World War has become officially listed.
The historic Stow Maries airfield and 24 associated buildings were awarded the Grade II* listed status to preserve them for future generations, the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport has announced.
Visitors will be given a "poignant reminder" of the heroism of the war's military pilots and the conditions in which they worked, according to Heritage Minister John Penrose.
