FREMONT, Calif. - The Fremont School Board may need to restructure its budget to fund more programs with tangible results, contends Reshma Karipineni, a contender for one of three available seats on the board.
Karipineni is contesting against five other candidates - including incumbent Lily Mei - on the Nov. 6 ballot. The mother of two pre-school boys told India- West she is concerned that the beleaguered budget of the Fremont Unified School District supports programs that may not produce measurable results.
The lack of accountability is especially troubling as FUSD has lost $95 million in state funding, said Karipineni, 33, who has billed herself as a finance director but dodged a question about where she currently works.
"The cuts have had a very significant impact on our schools. Teachers are waiting for pay raises; facilities are in disrepair," she said, adding, "Kids cannot study if the school's HVAC system is broken and it's too hot to concentrate," she emphasized.
