Camp Diva empowers young women of African descent to be community leaders.
When the Richmond, Va.-based organization Camp Diva was created in 2004, it was suppose to be just a summer program that would empower and prepare young girls of African descent for womanhood.
Today, Camp Diva includes a summer retreat for girls ages 11-15 and Divapreneurship, which teaches on-the-job skills to girls ages 15 to 18. Nearly 700 Black girls of all economic backgrounds tackle real issues in their communities, such as teen pregnancy and other social ills.
