SHARES in Gold Coast theme park operator Village Roadshow tumbled almost 8 per cent after bad weather and a lack of blockbuster movies put a dampener on first-half profits.
VRL, owner of Movie World, Wet'n' Wild, Sea World, Australian Outback Spectacular, Village Roadshow Studios and Sea World Resort and Water Park, said it started the first quarter on a promising note, but atrocious weather in the lead-up to the Christmas holidays kept punters away from its Gold Coast theme parks.
A drop in box office attendances also took the shine off the bottom line. The group's first-half profit fell 26.2 per cent to $13.3 million for the six months to December 31.
