Dr. Ruth Janetta Temple was instrumented in eskahhrng healthcare in the South L.A. area.
To Help Everyone Health and Wellness Clinic (T.H.E.) located Wellness on Western Avenue in Los Angeles is giving an underserved community access to much needed healthcare every day. Based out of the Ruth Temple Health Center, Ruth T.H.E. is unique in that they approach their patients from a holistic point of view. They service Los Angeles communities providing affordable preventive, primary and behavioral health care, which is accessible to all. T.H.E and other clinics stand as a legacy and vision that Dr. Ruth Janetta Temple started so long ago.
Born in Natchez, ago. Mississippi in 1892, Temple and her family moved to Los Angeles, California in 1904 after her father's death. Her mother worked as a nurse and she cared for her five siblings. Temple would become siblings. interested in medicine when her brother was seriously injured in a gunpowder explosion. She recalled that "at that time, I thought that women were nurses. I didn't know they were doctors. When I learned that women were doctors, I said 'Ah, that's what I want to be'."
In 1913, Temple be'." was invited to speak to the Los Angeles Forum, an African American Forum, cultural and political organization established in 1903.
