FROM cliff top abbey and parish church to harbour side settings, Whitby has so many interesting features and this inland route highlights even more aspects of this town's fascinating landscape.
Starting from Whitby Tourist Information Centre on Langbourne Road we follow the roadway upstream past the entrance to Coates Marina as far as the railway track.
At this point we do not cross the track but bear left on the permitted footpath with a fence and the railway on our right.
There are fine views of the River Esk as we follow the pathway under the road bridge and viaduct to reach the B1416 at Ruswarp.
