TEANECK -- The League of Women Voters of Teaneck hosted a candidate forum on Thursday that proved largely devoid of the acrimony that often marks regular council meetings, and the allegations and insinuations made in anonymous fliers and robocalls received by residents in recent weeks.
The debate in Teaneck High School drew an audience of about 60.
Councilmen Henry Pruitt, Mark Schwartz and Mohammed Hameeduddin, and challengers Stephen Gruber, Michael Pagan, Chondra Young and Jacob Herenstein, who has not attended any debate so far, are running for three four-year council terms on May 10.
The candidates largely agreed on several points, including the need for workshop meetings -- the council held its first such meeting in years on Tuesday and has another scheduled for May 24 -- and keeping Teaneck non-partisan.
