You were CEO of the Year in 2015 and have just been named runner-up this year. What does it mean to be the first woman in Australia to earn this gong? It's such a privilege. There have been many other good other female CEOs but it's great to be the first chosen by The CEO Magazine.
Where did your entrepreneurial spirit come from? My father was an entrepreneur. I grew up in a small farming community in Cheshire, England, and I always had a few jobs on the go.
When I was 15, my brother came across an old set of ladders and a friend and I used to clean windows. I also had an ice-cream truck. We used to sell ban the bomb badges too. I was always protesting and in the street campaigning. There wasn't much to campaign about in that community, though.
You had a sliding doors moment when you were 18. What happened? I had a bit of a challenging relationship...
