Abstract

Rodden describes the unique friendship between Japanese author Oe Kenzaburo and his translator, American filmmaker John Nathan. Rather than obscuring or concealing the person of the writer, Nathan illuminates what interests human beings: Kenzaburo's character that surrounds and informs the writing.
