Moribund Dauphin Technology Inc. may be making a comeback. The Palatine-based company re-enters the hand-held computer business next week with the first shipments of a new product called Orasis. Packed with power and features--operating at 233 mega-hertz with a 4.3-gigabyte hard drive--Orasis is positioned between the palmtop and the notebook. Prospective buyers, however, may blanch at the price: $3,200 before volume discounts.
Orasis represents the salvation of Dauphin, largely a shell company since it emerged from bankruptcy two years ago with virtually no assets. Success would allow Chairman and CEO Andrew Kandalepas, who seized control of the company out of bankruptcy, to thumb his nose at skeptics.
