Union Pacific moves to repaint the last of its merger partner locomotives
In late 2017, Union Pacific decided to send all locomotives not in its current corporate colors to its paint shop in North Little Rock, Ark., for a fresh coat. The railroad, which has the longest surviving corporate paint scheme in North America, will present a unified look for the first time since the mid-1990s.
Within the group of 500 units slated for repainting, 41 stand out as former Chicago & North Western, Southern Pacific, St. Louis Southwestern, and Rio Grande units. Most wear patches with UP reporting marks and road numbers. The rest are in older UP schemes.
