The Ho Chi Minh City-based information technology and telecommunication service provider EIS Inc has written to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPT) seeking approval to provide Internet telephone services.
The proposal followed significant local demand for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology.
Tran Huynh Duy Thuc, EIS's president & CEO, said: "We feel very concerned because of locals' great demand for a low-priced Internet phone service. But legally, we - a private company - have yet to be allowed to provide the service in Vietnam," he said.
Last September, Thuc said, his company sought the MPT's permission to provide this service in Vietnam, but no definite response was given. "For this reason, we had to establish One-Connection (OC) in Singapore to offer our services through a range of franchisee partners," he explained.
