Jerusalem - Yesterday, February 15, Israeli Minister of Education Yossi Sarid held a meeting with IPCRI Directors Dr. Gershon Baskin and Dr. Zakaria al Qaq, together with IPCRI's Peace Education Staff Dr. Marwan Darweish, Anat Reisman-Levy and Nedal Jayousi to discuss the means and ways of bringing education for peace to the entire Israeli school system.
IPCRI presented to Minister Sarid the main elements of the Peace Education project that includes a multi-disciplinary curriculum for tenth graders in sociology, history and literature being taught for 48 schools hours in all of the participating schools, joint encounters including overnights for all the participating Israeli classes with their Palestinian counterparts, in-service teacher training of some 200 hours including at least one five-day encounter between Israeli and Palestinian teachers and school principals, training a core group of Israeli and Palestinian facilitators, and providing on-going supervision and training for all of the teachers in the program. IPCRI's program today involves 32 Israeli and Palestinian schools, close to 200 Israeli and Palestinian teachers and close to 3,000 Israeli and Palestinian tenth graders.
