BOSTON -- The president of an area Israel advocacy group said that he doesn't expect NewTV, a public-access cable channel in Newton, to change their plans of broadcasting the Arab-news program Mosaic by presenting clips from Palestinian Authority TV. He explained that he only wants the Newton community to know the truth about what's being broadcast on their channel.
Charles Jacobs, president of The David Project in Boston, planned to present clips of Palestinian Authority TV from the documentary "Relentless" on the Newton public-access show, "Newton Talk," on Wednesday, Feb. 4. The clips, he explained, illustrated the "whitewashed" news content that Mosaic airs from 12 Arabic television stations in the Middle East. While he admits that there may be no legal way of blocking the station from broadcasting Mosaic, he said that NewTV and its viewers need to know it is spreading "propaganda."
"They are showing propaganda without labeling it as propaganda -- and that's dangerous," said Jacobs. "Free speech is free speech, and you can put Nazi stuff and racist material in the library. They are being dishonest. They are saying this is what Arab TV is like, and it's not what it's like -- it's what the Arab tyrants want you to think the Arab world is like. (NewTV is) being a...
