BHP settles
BHP said it would settle a class action complaint filed in a US court over the 2015 Samarco dam disaster in Brazil for $US50 million ($67m) and no admission of liability.
BHP said the agreement was subject to approval by the US District Court of the Southern District of New York. The company is facing several class actions around the world as shareholders seek compensation for selling BHP shares shortly after the Samarco disaster.
BHP owns 50 per cent of Samarco, where a tailings dam failure in November 2015 killed 19 people and caused widespread environmental damage.
