TO DEBUT AT MARCH 6 OPENING
SAN ANTONIO - The Steel Eel is taking shape at SeaWorld Adventurepark, and the huge steel coaster is set to premier when the park opens for its season on March 6.
The Morgan Mfg. hypercoaster is the largest single season capital program in the park's 10-year history. (AB, Sept. 7,1998) "From the top you can see downtown San Antonio 16 miles away," said Keith Kasen, executive vice president and general manager.
The ride is located in the same area of the park where the Great White coaster was installed in 1996, and is adjacent to the three children's rides.
"It used to be real quiet back here," Kasen told AB. "Now it's quite busy, and will be even more so when the Steel Eel opens."
He said the ride is perfect for the park. "It won't have any inversions, so it will appeal to a more traditional ridership and it will have a lower height requirement than the Great White. We have a feeling everyone will love to either ride the Eel or watch it."
