BALLET CREOLE. The company's Glorious Soulful Messiah has become an annual tradition, thanks in great part to Patrick Parson's sensitive choreography. The source material doesn't hurt, either: the production is inspired by the 1992 recording Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration, spearheaded by Quincy Jones and featuring Stevie Wonder and other legendary black singers performing rhythm and blues versions of arias and choruses from Handel's famous oratorio. BALLET JÖRGEN CANADA. Choreographer Bengt Jörgen has retired his 13-year-old Nutcracker for a fresh interpretation that involves the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. The story of a sleepless little girl and her nutcracker doll is now anchored in the Group of Seven- several of its paintings are used as backdrops- imbuing the Russian classic with some serious CanCon.
