Like a flirtatious debutante, Chemical Bank has been dancing with a number of different real estate suitors in its search for a new headquarters location.
For months it looked as though Chemical would tie the knot with the Times Square towers planned by Park Tower Realty Corp. and Prudential Insurance Co. After those negotiations broke down, Solomon Equities began courting the bank with its two towers at 750 Seventh Ave. and 1585 Broadway.
But now Chemical is reportedly holding exploratory talks with what many in the real estate industry feel is the most promising beau of all: Rockefeller Center Development Corp.
The corporation, a development subsidiary of Rockefeller Group Inc., is planning a 57-story, 1.6 million-square-foot skyscraper at 745 Seventh Ave. Both the location, between 49th and 50th streets, and the prestige of the Rockefeller name would make it an attractive choice for Chemical, say industry officials.
Plans won't change
Moreover, a Rockefeller Group spokesman says the company's intentions to recapitalize, which were reported last week, won't change its plans to build the skyscraper at 745 Seventh Ave.
