When Christopher Mander accepted his post as the general manager of Hotel Macklowe and the Macklowe Conference Center, he decided to drive to New York from his former Miami home even though his family was flying.
"I wanted to be by myself," says the silver-haired 42-year-old, who was most recently general manager of the Hotel Inter-Continental Miami. "I used one day of the trip to forget the past, and one day to think about the future."
One day probably wasn't enough.
In his post, Mr. Mander will be at the helm of one of three new hotels scheduled to open in the Times Square area over the next 18 months.
