BARCLAYS BANK PLC IS working up a megadeal to move to the World Financial Center, real estate sources say.
Barclays, and its real estate advisors at Goldman Sachs & Co., have long been searching for new space downtown. The search accelerated earlier this year when Barclays' current site at 222 Broadway was purchased by Merrill Lynch for its own use.
Under a deal currently being negotiated, Barclays would relocate its operations to at least 300,000 square feet of space at the World Financial Center. London-based Barclays currently occupies roughly 200,000 square feet of space at the building near City Hall, where its lease expires in the year 2002. In addition it occupies 95,000 square feet at 75 Wall St.
