WHEN THE Apollo Theater Foundation Inc. began its
search for a new chief last year, Jonelle Procope, a board
member and veteran entertainment attorney, was chosen to
head the nominating committee. Never did Ms. Procope
imagine that she would end up with the job.
But when the theater's chairman, Richard Parsons, asked her to consider it, she realized that she couldn't turn the offer down. "The Apollo is a cultural icon, and it's also the economic anchor for the Harlem community," says Ms. Procope, the Apollo's new president and chief executive. "I love the arts; I'm civic-minded. It's my dream job."
