AS THE DAUGHTER Of Latin music legend Tito Puente, Audrey Puente always expected to go into the family business. In her case, she figured, that meant becoming a lawyer for musicians.
"My father said he needed a lawyer he could trust," says the petite brunette, who studied xylophone as a child and later taught herself piano.
Law school was still in Ms. Puente's plans as she finished up her undergrad degree in speech communications at Syracuse University. But by then, she had a favorite pastime that had nothing to do with music. More and more, she found herself glued to the Weather Channel.
"I was interested in music and in the music business, but my passion was the weather," says Ms. Puente, who ended up following her passion instead of her genes.
