The judge overseeing the trial of four former KPMG LLP employees charged with criminal tax fraud and conspiracy related to abusive tax shelter activities issued an order July 31 granting one of the defendants severance as to the four tax evasion counts against him (United States v. Stein, S.D.N.Y., No. Sl 05 Crim. 0888 (LAK), 7/31/08).
Judge Lewis Kaplan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York found the indictment in the case did not allege that the four tax evasion counts against Raymond J.
