The parent company of local Fox Broadcasting Network affiliate WXIN Channel 59 is negotiating to sell the TV station and the three others it owns to New York-based Renaissance Communications Corp.
The negotiations caused long-standing rumors to resurface that the new owners would then sell WXIN to the parent company of WTTV Channel 4, St. Louis-based Rivcr City Broadcasting Co.
Broadcasting magazine said in its June 29 issue that conflicting reports indicated that if the deal is completed, the two stations will likely combine.
Hartford, Conn.-based Chase Communications, owner of WXIN and Fox affiliates WTIC in Hartford, Conn.; KDVR in Denver; and WATL in Atlanta is negotiating a sale of the stations to Renaissance confirmed Joe Young, vice president and general manager of WXIN.
But Young flatly denied nunors thal WTTV would combine with WXIN. "That ain't 'gonna happen. We bill too much money. There's no way they're going to close us down," he said.
