This turns up at an odd time. As a New Yorker I became a contributor to WNYC some years ago because I respected their music programs. Since 9/11 they have changed their policy, replacing most of their music with news and talk shows, so I cancelled my subscription. One of the few music programs left is John Schaefer's nightly New Sounds show, never one of my favorites, since he seldom plays a complete piece of music and has a particular fondness for ear candy and sound for sound's sake. He is the producer of this disc of WNYC-commissioned works, most of them written for the 1994 50th anniversary concert.
