Since Professor Wolf Tietze founded the journal in 1977, GeoJournal has served the international geographical community with distinction. As of Janunary 1, 2010, GeoJournal has published more than 215 issues in 74 volumes. When I took over the editor-in-chief for GeoJournal back in 2007, I had indicated back then that gradual changes will be made to better serve the international community. About a year ago, I met with the Springer management team and we discussed what should be the new focus of GeoJournal during the 2nd decade of 21st century and beyond. Based upon new trends across the disciplines, detailed market analysis, consultation of key editorial board members, weve decided to relaunch GeoJournal in 2010 to focus primarily on human geography with six issues per year. We also decided to open up GeoJournal to social scientists and humanity scholars who take a geographical or spatial approach in their work. With this change of focus, we hope GeoJournal can become the hub of cutting edge research by social scientists and humanity scholars in the coming decade.
