Since 1976, Andrew Carnegie's former Fifth Avenue mansion in New York has housed the Smithsonian Institution's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. But for the last 13 months, the Cooper-Hewitt has been closed. On September 17, the museum reopened, unveiling the first part of a three-phase, $20 million renovation and expansion effort headed by New York architect Polshek and Partners.
