Guwahati, Oct. 28: It was a glorious evening to honour those who had made Assam proud.
The Telegraph Axom Shrestho 2016, in its second edition hosted by The Telegraph, took all those present at the banquet hall of Vivanta by Taj back on a nostalgic ride to a splendid era in history.
The event was presented by Indian Oil Corporation, in association with Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals.
Eleven achievers, who have made a mark in fields such as film, theatre, sports, literature, art and culture, dance and music, business, fashion, education and social work, were felicitated at the function.
The awardees comprised Biju Phukan (film), Ratan Lahkar (theatre), Father V.M. Thomas (education), Rita Chowdhury (literature), Jadav Payeng (social work), Jeetu Sharma and Tapan Bhattacharjee (music), Indira P.P. Bora (dance), Benu Misra (art and culture), Debashish Roy (sports), Robin Dutta (entrepreneurship) and Waheeda Rahman (fashion).
The award ceremony started after a minute's silence to pay homage to last year's awardees - litterateur Nalinidhar Bhattacharjya and Sangeet Natak awardee Kinaram Nath Oja who passed away recently.
