Imphal, Dec. 9: The Okram Ibobi Singh government has decided to create seven new districts out of six existing ones by upgrading seven subdivisions. Manipur will now have 16 districts.
The decision was taken at 1.30am following a discussion with his cabinet colleagues and senior officials.
The government issued a gazette notification today, creating Kangpokpi district out of Senapati, Jiribam district out of Imphal East, Kakching district out of Thoubal, Tengnoupal district out of Chandel, Kamjong district out of Ukhrul, Pherzawl district out of Churachandpur and Noney district out of Tamenglong.
The boundaries of the districts will be demarcated according to the existing boundaries of the sub-divisions. In...
