Hundreds of people visited retired Marine Captain Dan Moran, a warrior severely wounded in Iraq, to watch Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, on behalf of the Helping a Hero organization, present Moran with the keys to a new house in Cypress, Texas, Aug. 3 1 .
Secretary Gates and Moran first crossed paths in December 2003 at Moran 's graduation from Texas A&M University, where Secretary Gates was president at the time. Four years later, Secretary Gates visited Moran who was at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, being treated for extensive burns.
Moran received third-degree burns covering 50 percent of his body when his platoon was ambushed during his second tour of duty in Ramadi, Iraq. He also suffered a compression fracture to his T-8 vertebrae, herniated discs, a mild...
