The Japanese archaeologist Yoko Shindo Takahashi was a pioneer of Islamic glass research in Japan. She was involved in a tram accident on the morning of September 8, 2018, the last day of the 21st congress of the International Association for the History of Glass (AIHV), held at Istanbul University. Her husband rushed from Japan to her bedside, but Yoko died on September 13.
Yoko graduated from Waseda University in Tokyo in 1979, and received her master's degree in 1985. She then began her doctoral studies there, which she completed in 1989.
