Mark Hanna died after receiving major injuries in the crash of Hispano HA1112-MIL G-BOML at Sabadell, near Barcelona, Spain, on 26 September.
As co-founder with his father Ray, of the Old Flying Machine Company, Mark Hanna flew a multitude of different types of historic aircraft at airshows and for films, Most recently, his work came dramatically before the public in the film Saving Private Ryan for which he flew a P-51 D Mustang. In a graphic scene, in which Tom Hanks's platoon is pinned down by a German Tiger tank in a Normandy village and faces certain annihilation, two Mustangs, one flown by Hanna, come diving out of the sky in the nick of time to destroy the enemy armor.
