THE deputy chief constable of Sussex was last night suspended from duty after an inquiry into his force's fatal shooting of an unarmed man.
The action against Mark Jordan, aged 41, was taken by Sussex Police Authority after a meeting. It took the decision to suspend Mr Jordan, the county's deputy chief constable since 1997, after studying a report by Kent Police into the shooting in January 1998 of James Ashley, aged 39.
Ashley was killed by Sussex Police's special operations unit, who burst into a flat in Hastings while he was unarmed and naked in bed with his girlfriend. He...
