Abstract: Expansion and compression are two distinct antagonistic features that characterize the current stage of development of the cyber environment. The expansion generated by the emerging technologies related to cyberspace, corroborated with the spatial-temporal compression of the actions carried out in this field, consolidates the synergistic potential of the information warfare specific to the current period in an authentic, progressive and innovative way. The information warfare is the non-bloody pillar of the conflicts specific to the current century, which revolves around strategic communication (STRATCOM) efforts and which, through the complexity and multitude of specific techniques/methods, leads to a high level of fulfilment of personal and/or collective goals. The subject of this paper is the informational warfare, on the one hand, and the Overton window theory - a sociological tool used mainly in the cyber domain to achieve the specific objectives of this type of warfare, on the other hand. This paper represents an empirical, qualitative research, its objective being the analysis of the modality of applying the Overton window by various politico-military actors in the context of informational warfare. The hypothesis from which the research started is that manipulative actions can represent the bridge from non-acceptance of a certain fact upon the full adoption of it by various groups or individuals, thus leading to a transition of the Overton window in the population's subconscious. Such an analysis is necessary in order to establish a scientific "milestone" to identify all the motives behind guaranteeing the success of informational warfare, augmented by the use of cyber capabilities and by using a modern and efficient manipulation technique. The paper concludes with the idea that using the Overton window theory, international, regional or local actors can dispose of various informational resources by using a scientific tool that generates the expected psychological effects on the target population, leading to ensuring a high level of personal or collective goals and objectives.
