BLOOMINGTON - The old Central Catholic High School, a fixture on Bloomington's Center Street since 1928, will be demolished.
Monsignor Mark Williams, pastor of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, announced the decision Friday morning. The school, which has an enrollment of about 330 students, is moving to a new building on Airport Road this summer.
Renovation to the building, which opened as Trinity High School, would cost at least $4 million.
"It has been a difficult year trying to decide whether to devote major financial resources to restore the high school," Williams said, adding that parishioners, community members and the Diocese of Peoria were consulted.
"We've exhausted all other fiscally responsible options for this property," Williams said.
