The mishap occurred while she was returning to her Manitoba home from a dance competition in Montana.
While waiting for repairs, she checked out education opportunities in the North Dakota city and subsequently enrolled in Minot State University, emerging four years later with a Broadcast Arts Degree.
"I had frequently dreamed of being on television while growing up on the Long Plains Reserve near Portage la Prairie," says Meeches, now 35.
"And the dream became a reality because I was able to start the Minot broadcasting program with money won from pow-wow competitions."
The rest, to restate a cliche, is history. Fourteen years later, she is an executive producer, host and president of Eagle Vision Inc. and Meeches Video Productions, two award-winning Winnipeg companies that produce shows about native culture for such networks as Craig Broadcasting's "A" Channels; Treehouse, an off-shoot of the Youth Television Network (YTV); and the Aboriginal Peoples' Television Network (APTN).
Success was gradual, however. She began her career in 1986 by compiling reports for a radio talk show on the Winnipeg-based Native Media Network. She then moved to Craig's CKX-TV in Brandon...
