KOCB-TV, Channel 34, and the WB Network are spending more than half a million dollars in the Oklahoma City market to raise viewer awareness of the channel's switch in network affiliation.
KOCB will switch from the UPN Network to the WB Network on Sunday, Jan. 18.
Baltimore-based Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns KOCB, announced this summer it had signed an agreement to switch five UPN- affiliated stations, including KOCB, over to WB.
Joe Muller, general manager of KOCB, said the station will spend more than $200,000 to promote its new network affiliation. In addition, he said WB will spend more than $300,000 in the Oklahoma City market to promote the switch.
Muller said the campaign includes print and radio promotions in addition to on-air promotions. There will be a star-studded launch party with an expected 500 to 800 people at the Cowboy Hall of Fame on Jan. 26.
On-air promos began Nov. 27 with a "tease campaign" intended mainly to promote viewer awareness of the change and identification with the WB name and logo. A more "star-driven" campaign kicked off Monday. Finally, on Jan. 16, the channel will begin to air promotions for particular upcoming episodes of WB shows.
