The staff at Channel 5 has much to high-five about after KVVU, the Fox affiliate, won the late-news ratings for the first time since going to local news in 1998.
Fox 5's 10 p.m. newscast swept all three key age demographics during the February ratings period, according to Nielsen ratings and research information.
"The interesting thing is not only have our numbers increased, but more and more people are watching news at 10 p.m. instead of 11," said Susan Lucas, vice president and general manager.
Lucas said, "I think part of it is as people come here from other parts of the country, they often had really good 10 p.m. news to choose from, and they choose to go to bed earlier."
Channel 5, anchored by John Overall, led the adults ages 18 to 49 with a 4.5 rating, or 33,000 viewers. KVBC, Channel 3, long the dominant station, was second at 3.5, 26,000. KLAS, Channel 8, had a 3.3, 24,000; KTNV, Channel 13, a 1.5, 11,000; and KTUD, the only other 10 p.m. newscast, anchored by Kate Maddox, drew a 0.6, 4,000.
