Operation Orion in Medellín's Comuna 13 is one of the most questioned military interventions of Álvaro Uribe's government because of what it meant for its inhabitants and also because of the complaints against the security forces, which are even deposited in the National Center of Historical Memory (Centro Nacional de Memoria Histórica).
The military operation began on October 16, 2002 as the largest armed action carried out in an urban territory as a result of the armed conflict in Colombia. The operation lasted throughout November and early December and was carried out by the Army, the DAS, the Police, the CTI and Special Anti-Terrorist Forces with tanks and helicopter gunships.
