The Green Bay Packers are not considered one of the elite teams in the National Football League, but one of the most compelling stories in the league is the drama of how well quarterback Brett Favre can perform this season.
At least for ESPN "Monday Night Football" analyst Joe Theismann, it's compelling.
"I think one of the very unique stories that can be followed during the year will be Brett Favre's situation in Green Bay," Theismann said Wednesday during a conference call with reporters to promote Monday night games on ESPN.
"I think the pressing question there will always be should the Packers have let Brett go and (say) we want to move forward with Aaron Rodgers?" Theismann said. "Or can Brett come back and gain the discipline back in his game that has made him a three-time MVP in this league basically on a football team that does not have a whole lot of supporting cast around him?"
Theismann said in the off-season he thought Favre was going to retire after reading a comment by him near the end of the regular season.
