West Allis As Andretti Green Racing tore through the Indy Racing League competition, driver Tony Kanaan tempered his enjoyment with caution.
Prepare for the inevitable, the 2004 champ told everyone who'd listen, because the pendulum swings both ways.
So now that time has come for Andretti Green to be the underdog. After winning 19 of 33 races and consecutive titles the past two seasons, the team is still searching for its first victory this year.
Were Kanaan's teammates listening?
"You're always frustrated when it's not working, when you're not winning," said Dario Franchitti, one of four Andretti Green drivers and the 2004 winner at the Milwaukee Mile.
"That's why we do this. These cars are fun to drive but it's the winning that we all get excited about.
"When you're having a season like this, it's character-building. It's not just (not) winning . . . but a lot of times we haven't actually been quick, so it's a new sensation."
