A lot of people are eager to find out whether Mariah Carey is scared silly of singing before big crowds or just plain shy.
She has repeatedly demonstrated dynamic vocal range in the studio, but can she be equally effective on the road?
We'll find out Tuesday night when she brings her show to the Worcester Centrum, part of her first-ever tour. This is a big test for the two-time Grammy winner, whose previous live performances have been pretty much limited to the 1991 Grammy awards (she was called stiff and self-conscious) and last year's "MTV Unplugged" show.
`The Proper Moment'
"I think this is the proper moment for me to go on tour," she told USA Today in a rare interview that was published last week. "I don't think it was any earlier. I wasn't ready."
She definitely wasn't ready when she was thrust onto the stage at the Grammys a couple of years ago.
"All of a sudden I was on the Grammys in front of 72 million people," she told USA Today. "Sitting in front of me was Aretha Franklin and every star in the business. I had to deal with doing that." Who wouldn't act stiff and self-conscious?
